Despite the current state of the world we live in, I aspire for a better future. I believe in incremental change that becomes impactful enough through consistent iteration. I also enjoy working with like-minded people in bringing ideas to life.
In a philosophical sense, design gets replaced every now and then and one should not get attached to what has been done–it is ephemeral in nature but we hope the results aren’t.
Nursing is rooted in caring for people. Although I found being inside operating theaters and emergency rooms exhilirating, the day-to-day duties of a nurse are just not for me. I still try my best to practice empathy though, be it being patient-centered when I was a student nurse or human-centered now that I am a designer.
I went on to work for a company that made electronic health records (EHR) software. Healthcare staff have long suffered dealing with programs like this everyday:
I trained doctors on how to use this EHR. It was at this point I realized that design can have a huge impact. Looking back, the doctors would not have needed a lot of training if only the company invested in design.
As I was given the chance to pursue a career in design, I have always sought to work on projects to improve healthcare–volunteering in mental health organisations, doing UX reviews for a VR pain management company and now changing the healthcare landscape in Southeast Asia for the better.
Qualitative and quantitative data are gathered through user research and analytics among others.
Collected data will then be synthesized to identify problems, pain points, and areas for improvement.
Realistic and measurable goals are set to gauge how successful the undertaking will be.
Ideas are explored through workshops, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
Close coordination with software engineers, product managers and other stakeholders is done to deliver the product.
Getting the product in front of users and iterating is essential to ensure the design is effective.
When not designing, I seek out new experiences be it traveling to another country or random walks to a new part of the city. I practice eskrima and watch documentaries on history and geopolitics. In between those, I enjoy sitting on a bench in some random park, meditating. I am an amateur at everything–photography, crypto investing and recently cooking. I try.
I still struggle learning Spanish. Necesito dinero, por favor.
